About Saint Anthony of Padua Mission Statement The Parish of Saint Anthony of Padua in Northeast Minneapolis is a community of faith that is the mother church of all the Catholic parishes in the city of Minneapolis. It was the first mission parish established in what would later become the city of Minneapolis, back in 1849. The parish follows the commission of our Lord Jesus to be present to his people in all of their needs. We are a congregation of warm and loving parishioners, welcoming to visitors, with a special ministry to our elders. Historic we may be, but alive and active we remain. The parish has always served the needs of its people and has changed and adapted to meet those needs as they have changed. Saint Anthony's focused on ministry to educating youth and ran a K-12 school for over a hundred years when young families with school-aged children made up the congregation. It was then replaced by an Elder Community Ministry consisting of a nursing home and assisted living facilities when the school was consolidated with neighboring parish schools. As demographics have changed, so have the ministries offered by Saint Anthony's. As the nature of the community in this part of the city changes, Saint Anthony of Padua stands ready to continue to adapt itself to meet the needs of the people around her as they grow and change. Organic change, adapting to meet the needs of the people she serves is the hallmark of Saint Anthony's. This is the spirit for guiding the development of new ministries and activities in the parish.
